September 23rd, 2024, 2:00 PM, Institute of Anatomy, Lecture Hall

About the Speaker:
Prof. Dr. Antonio Luchicchi is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Anatomy and Neurosciences, Amsterdam UMC, specializing in the pre-immune etiology of multiple sclerosis (MS). He has significantly contributed to the understanding of axon-myelin interactions and the role of altered communications in demyelination and remyelination processes in MS.

Education and Training:
Postdoc: Biomedical Sciences, VU University Amsterdam
PhD: Neuroscience, University of Cagliari, Italy
Master’s Degree: Psychology, University of Cagliari, Italy

Steps of his Career:
Assistant Professor at Amsterdam UMC, MS Center Amsterdam (2021-Present)
University Lecturer, Department of Anatomy and Neurosciences, Amsterdam UMC (2020-2021)
Postdoctoral Researcher, VU University Amsterdam (2012-2017)
Visiting Scientist, Marie Curie University, Paris (2010)

Research Contributions:
Dr. Luchicchi’s research encompasses the use of advanced imaging techniques and histopathology on human post-mortem brain material and organotypic slice cultures. His studies are pivotal in understanding the early events in MS, including myelin blistering, demyelination, and axonal loss.
