Systematic reviews have become indispensable in evidence-based research and decision-making across various disciplines. This lecture aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the principles, methods, and practical considerations involved in conducting systematic reviews.

The session will begin by illuminating the importance of systematic reviews in synthesizing existing knowledge, minimizing bias, and informing evidence-based practice. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the objectives and benefits of conducting systematic reviews in the pursuit of robust and reliable evidence. Moving on, the lecture will delve into the key steps of conducting a systematic review, including formulating focused research questions, developing a rigorous protocol, comprehensive literature searching, study selection, data extraction, quality assessment, and data synthesis.

The session will equip attendees with practical skills for conducting literature searches using appropriate databases, constructing search strategies as well as providing insights into the critical process of study selection, employing predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria to ensure the highest level of relevance and quality. To enhance comprehension, real-world examples and publications will be presented throughout the lecture, enabling participants to grasp the intricacies of systematic reviews and apply the knowledge gained to their own research. Additionally, potential sources of bias and strategies to address heterogeneity among studies will be explored to ensure the credibility and validity of the review process.

The lecture will conclude by emphasizing the significance of transparent reporting and adherence to established guidelines, such as PRISMA, to enhance the credibility and reproducibility of systematic reviews. By the end of this lecture, attendees will have a comprehensive understanding of the systematic review process and will be equipped with the skills and tools needed to undertake their own systematic reviews.
